Nicholas Malinowski
Arist, Illustrator and Writer I'm a professional and self-representing artist for nearly 10 years. Received a MFA in Painting from University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in 2010. Since then I have lived in worked in Los Angeles and Nyc. Recently, (since the pandemic) I have moved back to my home town, Blue Hill Maine where I have set up a new studio. Besides selling art I have also published a picture book, played in multiple gigging bands and made a few music videos. Creativity is a way of life and I see each endeavor fueling the other. I went back to school in Los Angeles in 2015 to study animation digital painting and design. Since then, most of my focus was on the digital side of art. I made a few short animations and developed a digital painting portfolio. However, being back in Maine has brought me back to my first love; Oil painting. My work explores themes revolving around human relationships, both intimate and on a larger scale our need for community. In my recent circus themed paintings I explore a community that developed incredible talents and abilities that were used to satiate our need for the spectacle of performance, entertainment and voyeurism. It's an incredibly rich subject to paint that hinges between the absurd, the silly and the incredible. In short, I love people in all our complexities for good or bad for better or worse I hope that shows through my paintings. |
Painting still has many nuances that I have only begun to explore. I am very excited and optimistic about the future of painting as a contemporary medium. I look forward to contributing to its development by showing new work as well as teaching and encouraging others to paint. ****** In many ways, these relationships are about human connections and the elements that keep people together and determine how we communicate with each other as well as our unconscious or unseen forces that influence our lives in profound ways every day. |
